Rassemblement National (RN) vows to vote against a potential government of the Nouveau Front Populaire (NFP)

During a series of consultations held at the Élysée Palace on Monday, Emmanuel Macron met with the leaders of the Rassemblement National, Jordan Bardella and Marine Le Pen, as well as the presidents of the National Assembly and the Senate. This initiative aims to resolve the political situation and prepare for the appointment of a new head of government.
Firm opposition to the Nouveau Front Populaire
Following their meeting with the president, Jordan Bardella clearly stated that the RN would oppose the formation of a government of the Nouveau Front Populaire, regardless of its potential composition. « We indicated that we were in favor of a motion of censure towards a probable government of the Nouveau Front Populaire, » he affirmed. Marine Le Pen, standing by his side, added that the presence or absence of LFI ministers in such a government would not change their position.
In recent days, Jean-Luc Mélenchon, leader of LFI, had suggested that he could accept a government of the NFP without members of his party. However, Marine Le Pen believes that this proposal is inconsequential: « The Nouveau Front Populaire is led by La France Insoumise. The most brutal, the most violent, the most excessive, the most outrageous is the one who imposes his law. That’s what happened for two years, » she criticized.
Call for a referendum in the face of political deadlock
Facing the risk of institutional deadlock, Marine Le Pen proposed to « directly address the people » through a referendum. She believes that the President of the Republic should consult the French people in case of a deadlock in the National Assembly. « The president always has the possibility in case of a blockage in the Assembly to ask the French directly for their opinion. We are obviously very in favor of this, » she stated.
Furthermore, the RN calls for an extraordinary session to be opened in the National Assembly before the appointment of the next Prime Minister.
